HYDROGEN IN CANADA

Welcome, all!

This website is still under construction.
Some pages and links are not ready or are non-functioning.
Plaese continue to come back to see what advances have been made to the website.
and please contact us with your ideas and requests. Thank you.

Below are a few links to material that I found provided an overview of the research and the future of hydrogen in general and in Canada in particular. Go to the Reaching For Zero Ltd website for a backgrounder on climate change, hydrogen, and hydrogen pyrolysis.

Under the Print Resources section, below, I list Dr. Nazim Muradov's (an American scientist, researcher, and professor) books as I believe that hydrogen pyrolysis is a technology that will be an important part of the energy transistion. His books are full of information that is well presented and easy to understand. If you want the facts then you must read his 2014 book.

Bill Gates' book on the climate crisis lays out its causes and he articulates pathways to "zero". Importantly, he also suggests there is good reason for individuals to be hopeful and for individuals to actually start doing something.    Ian Marcil, Winnipeg, 2023

The Hydrogen Strategy for Canada
December 2020 Natural Resources, Canada
Source: https://natural-resources.canada.ca/climate-change-adapting-impacts-and-reducing-emissions/canadas-green-future/ the-hydrogen-strategy/23080

"The Strategy is designed to spur investment and partnerships to establish Canada as a global supplier of hydrogen, and to increase domestic production, which will transform our energy sector, " the Honourable Seamus O‘Regan, Canada‘s Minister of Natural Resources.

The Province of Manitoba was heading in the right direction in 2003 as it investigated the future of hydrogen. This link takes you to the government report https://www.gov.mb.ca/sd/climate/pdf/hydrogen.pdf. Unfortunately, the provincial government at the time dropped the ball, focusing on hydro power instead. That was a good thing as hydro power is now a major plus but it is too bad that hydrogen was a false start as the province could otherwise now be ground-breaking. Hopefully the Hydrogen Council and Reaching For Zero Ltd. will help to resurrect some interest.

BRITISH COLUMBIA HYDROGEN STUDY
December 2019

"The Study outlines opportunities and recommendations to develop a vibrant and robust hydrogen economy in B.C. to meet 2030 and 2050 decarbonization targets and emissions reduction commitments."

The CANADIAN HYDROGEN AND FUEL CELL ASSOCIATION
CHFCA is a national, non-profit sector association comprising industry, academia, research agencies and other stakeholders focused on advancing the use of clean hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and products to help tackle our world‘s most critical energy challenges. The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association is attempting to maintain a database of all hydrogene production and use in Canada. Perhaps theirs will be better than the federal government's list, which, although legislated, is non-existant at the time of writing.

ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE CANADA
is tasked with keeping track of GHGs produced across Canada and publish the findings in a database. There is also supposed to be reported hydrogen production and use across Canada but that information does not seem to exist and neither Naural Resources nor Environment Canada can explain why that is.
